Dear Parents and Friends,
Hereafter the news and the activities information related to this week: we are quickly approaching the end of the year, but a lot is happening during these last weeks in May and June.
Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Accreditation. Last week on May 5th – 6th, Hanova was pleased to host two visitors from WASC (the US Western Association of Schools and Colleges). We communicated previously on our renewed authorization and accreditation efforts, and this was the Initial Visit, the first step after we completed all our documentation in the application process. Dr. Thomas Penland (Head of Taejon Christian International School in Korea) and Mr. Michael Allen (Elementary Principal at Shanghai American School in China) conducted a two-day visit to understand Hanova, including school vision, mission, schoolwide learning outcomes, school programs, and school operations. During this two-day visit, the visitors observed all classes in Hanova and dialogued with all stakeholders: Hanova Board, leadership team, faculty representatives, parents’ representatives, and students’ representatives. Their initial feedback was very positive, acknowledging the progress we are making all together. We would like to express our appreciation to all who made such an effort to support this Initial Visit. We would like to give our sincere gratitude to the parents present: Mrs. Choi, Mrs. Ye, Mrs. Jarc, Mr. Chan, Mr. Kayacik and Mr. Rice: many thanks for your help and support! We are now expecting the Visit Report with the recommendations from both the visitors and WASC committee. The results will be released at the end of June.

Year 3-4 Football. On Tuesday 12th May, Hanova hosted a Primary football game with XHIS. Mr. Brown’s Year 3-4 team, mostly composed of Year 3 students, competed bravely against Mr. Li’s team. Our students showed very good skills and scored two goals but XHIS students, composed mostly of Year 4 students were very hard to stop and the game ended with a score of 7-2 for XHIS. We are proud of our young football players and we also thank the parents and students who came to cheer for our football team.
Secondary Sports. On Sunday 15th May our Secondary Football team is going to XHIS to compete in a football tournament with other Xianese schools (XHIS, XIS, Gaoxin 1 and Hanova). There will be 3 games, then a semi-final and the final. On Saturday 21st May our Secondary Football teams is going to XIS to play a friendly football match. This will be the occasion also for the basketball team to compete as well with new opponents.
Year 8 visited a ceramic workshop in Xian. Last term Year 8 created a vessel with positive messages to refugee children from a German centre called CHILDREN HAVE A DREAM. Last Friday 6th May, our Year 8 students visited the ceramic studio 盛唐淘坊 and learnt how to glaze their vessels. During this trip they saw the whole process and equipment needed to produce glazed ceramics. The glazed ceramic pots will be displayed during the art exhibition organized on 3rd of June, to which you are all invited to celebrate this and other art works created by your child(ren).
