On October 15th, we were very honoured to have admission officers from four prestigious US universities; University of Colorado Boulder, University of Indiana, University of Missouri, and University of Oregon. Our students had the chance to know more about the US public universities from 4 different states. After the presentation, the format changed to a small college fair.
Welcome back to all our students and parents. There have been some exciting developments since we returned from the National Holidays.
It’s hard to believe that we have reached the end of the first academic term – so much has happened.
As a school we have made significant progress towards meeting our goals for 2018-19. One of these aims was to improve the communications between the school and the community. To achieve this, we have already started to review our school web-site and our aim is to translate the information here into Chinese and Korean – particularly the information about our PYP, MYP and Diploma curricula.
We hope that you all enjoyed this last ‘long weekend’; for most of us, it was a well-deserved rest after a very busy week of successful events. The teaching and support staff of the school underwent professional training last week and there were several workshops aimed at improving the teaching and learning in the school.
After four weeks now, we are slowly getting into our stride and this last week has seen some more memorable achievements and developments. In terms of EOTCs, Year 6 has already gone to visit the Grand Mosque and the Qinglongsi Temple.
The most significant news from last week was the official ‘ground-breaking’ ceremony of the new school in Chan Ba Ecological Zone. Following local practices and cultural observations, the ceremony began at precisely 10.35am.
Last week, we commenced our “reading buddy” program at Hanova within the PYP and this will run every three weeks. Younger and older students are paired up for reading together throughout the school year.
hank you parents for your participation in our “Meet the Teacher” event held on Thursday. It was great to welcome over 100 parents into the classrooms to meet with the teachers and discuss the learning of their child/children.
We will be having several meeting opportunities over the next few weeks. We will be holding an IB Diploma information workshop on Friday, 24th August, and a PYP ‘Meet the Teacher’ event on Thursday, 23rd August. More details of these are below.
We are sure that students and parents in our Hanova community will be happy to learn that all our new teaching staff for 2018-19 have safely arrived and are currently settling into Xi’an. As indicated below, students and parents will be able to meet their new teachers at the ‘Open Day’ sessions next Friday, 10th August.
