Dear Parents and Friends,
We wish you all the best for the Spring Break whether you are staying in Xi’an or going further afield. Spring Break includes also the Qingming, also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day in English, a traditional Chinese festival when people pray and honour their ancestors. We look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Monday, 11th April.
Security procedure for the Incident. This Thursday morning, we had an unfortunate incident happening in our school, involving the Nursery class. We have sent specific information with the details of the events to all staff, parents and members of our community through emails. The Board, the school leadership team and school staff were all involved to take proper procedures for the incident and a communications meeting was organized on Friday morning, to answer parents’ questions and concerns related to security and operations of our school. Additional information on these events and on increased security measures will be sent after the Spring Break.
Our personal thanks to all you parents, who have demonstrated concerns but also support to our school, and to all staff, who have maintained focus on what is is best for our students. We further welcome parents to come to school you still have any concerns. The PYP Assembly, planned for this Friday morning, has also been rescheduled to after the Spring Break.
IGCSE Parent – Teacher Conference. This Wednesday, parents of our Year 11 students met with the IGCSE course teachers to discuss the students’ result of their mock exams. Students, teachers and parents can then focus more on specific aspects, to ensure the best preparation during the IGCSE examinations, which are externally graded.
Secondary Parent-Teacher Conference. Secondary Parent-Teacher Conference will be held on Wednesday April 13th after the Qingming Break. A detailed agenda will be sent out and we would like to invite all students to attend with their parents, to discuss their interim report.
PYP Inter-house Activities. This week has been a very busy week for the Inter-house activities. The rescheduled Nursery/Reception activities were held on Tuesday morning. The activities organised by the P.E department consisted of colour matching and relay races. The students worked well, concentrated on the tasks and had fun. Also held on Tuesday was the Year 5 / Year 6 Dodgeball. It was a close competition which highlighted that a team working together can play well and win the activity. The teams were well led by the PYP house captains.
A group of year 5 students showed great initiative and independence by having an impromptu practice session during their lunchtime before the competition. These inter-house activities are giving opportunities for the students to learn in a different way then they experience in the classroom. A lot of good group working skills are being developed including cooperation, sportsmanship and commitment.
As we go into the holiday break, the Han house has taken a comfortable lead in the scoring with their win in the Year 5 / Year 6 Dodgeball activity. But, there is still plenty of time for the other houses to catch up. The next Inter-house planned activity will be the Sports Day which will be held on Friday 15th April.
International Day. On Wednesday, April 29th, Hanova will hold our annual International Day event. This is a celebration of the wide variety of nationalities and cultures within our Hanova community. The day will feature an international parade, lots of cultural activities, an amazing international lunch buffet and displays of our cultural learning at a special assembly. Parents are warmly invited to participate in this day – particularly in the parade and the lunch buffet. More news about International Day will follow soon after we return from our Spring Break.
