Hanova’s Principal’s Newsletter is a monthly publication designed to inform the Hanova community and the world about news and events happening at Xi’an Hanova International School.
As you are aware, the school is currently preparing for its IB PYP/MYP combined Evaluation in 2022. Starting next academic semester, we are obliged to undertake a ‘self-study’ that will involve all the learning community at Hanova – students, teachers and parents.
As mentioned in a previous newsletter, we are shortly to publish an on-line survey for parents to complete. This survey will be translated into Chinese and Korean for your convenience and should only take a few minutes of your time to complete.
The questions are all based upon the new 2020 IB Standards and Practices, which ensure that all IB programmes meet the expected requirements of being an IB World School. Therefore, please answer as honestly as possible so that the school can identify areas of improvement that it needs to address. Lastly, it’s almost Carnival time again! Please read the information later in this newsletter.
Hanova MYP Sports Day 2021
We hosted the Hanova MYP Sports Day 2021 on 30th April. Our students competed in 8 individual and group Track and Field events with great participation. Some of our athletes were extra special in their excellent performance in High-jump and Basketball ‘Push’.
And some teachers were also excited to challenge in Relay Race with great energy. Students have applied a lot of techniques and skills of which they learnt in Athletics unit in the events. The teachers who have involved in judging the station have worked hard physically and mentally. We couldn’t make it successfully without everyone’s efforts and perseverance, so that we could push everything done as expected in Sports Day.
As you have seen that our students have made greater performance than they did ever before. The excellent scores they achieved and the passion they behaved have told us what sportsmanship is like at this beautiful age of teenagers. We are quite proud of their efforts and performance! Go Hanova!
Here we have the Athletes Awarding List & Houses Ranking:

Year 6 Exhibition
This year our PYP Exhibition was held on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th of May. We had seven groups presenting their topics under the transdisciplinary theme: ‘Who we are’.
- People need rules to create safe roads by Eugine and Jihoon
- Our treatment of animals helps us to create a caring world by Siwoo, Constance, Lucy Lee and Yuny
- Human greed causes damage and may lead to destruction by Hun, Dan. Julie, Anna
- Human health is affected by smoke by James, Leo, Yubin and Lucy Cho
- Clean environment is produced by responsible human activities by Aster, Sunwoo and Shelly
- Healthy society is a product of mutual respect for human rights by Ella and Koeun
- We design Eco-friendly houses to improve our lives by Jacqueline
Students had 2 months to complete their research, surveys, interviews, actions, EOTCs, art pieces and websites. It was a long and challenging process but all the groups succeeded in showing their commitment to being life-long learners.
Y6 students were very excited to share their learning with the Hanova community and visitors. On Thursday they presented to EY, Y3 and Y4. The young students had the opportunity to learn about various topics through games and interactive activities. They all said it was lots of fun.
On Friday, Y6 presented their speeches to the parents, Y5 and Y7 students. They clearly showed their knowledge and understanding of their topics. Afterwards, the parents and our visitors could view the board presentations and ask questions. This year we had Y6 students from XLIS visiting our Exhibition. It was great to see students interacting and learning from each other.
We are all proud of our Y6 students’ achievements!
Hanova’s PYP Football Academy plays local matches
Submitted by Sam Quan
On 22 May, 2021, the players of our PYP Football Academy participated in two friendly matches against Xi’an Bodi School. We played “6 vs 6” for Years 3-4 and “8 vs 8” for Years 5-6 by age group. The students performed very well and devoted themselves to the game quite a lot! Besides the matches our students also strengthened their friendship with the opposing players and promoted exchanges with each other.
“As the coach of the PYP Football Academy team of Xi’an Hanova International School, I am very grateful to parents for their support for their children to participate in football activities. Without your full support, the event would not go so smoothly! The Hanova Football Academy team feels fortunate because of you!” – Sam Quan
Thank you again for your continuing support.
