Our aim is to educate our students to become all-rounded, committed global citizens, equipped with the knowledge and personal skills required in the 21st century.
We are an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, the newest in Xi’an, but already authorized to offer the IB Diploma Programme (DP), the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and soon also the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), for which we are a Candidate school. These are academically highly rigorous programmes, seen by many as the world gold standard for modern education, leading to entrance into top schools and universities around the world.
Hanova is an inclusive international community community and a student centered school focused on achieving excellent results in a stimulating environment that celebrates our linguistic and cultural diversity. It is a place where students take responsibility for their own learning and actions, while they also become resilient, optimistic and confident.
Our curriculum is world class, complemented by extra-curricular activities, all delivered by highly qualified and internationally experienced teaching staff that come from around the world. Our ambitious vision and commitment is to establish Hanova as one of the leading international schools in China, and we are on track to soon become authorized for all 3 programmes of the IB.
Learning is at the core of all that we do, and the active life-long engagement with learning is what makes our community special. We know that our learners need to be flexible and active in their thinking, be great communicators who can collaborate with others, be capable to investigate problems and propose solutions, and be sensitive to social issues and have empathy with others. This all-round education approach is embodied in the characteristics of the IB’s Learner Profile, that we wish to develop in all Hanova students.
Our current facilities and resources are good in our excellently refurbished location, and will evolve into a large, state-of-the-art campus that will include everything required for academic and extra curricular activities, capable to accommodate over 1,000 students.

Xi’an Hanova International School
Dr. Francesco Masetti-Placci has over 25 years of scholar, innovation and business experience acquired in Europe, North America and Asia. Born and raised in Italy, he holds a Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science from University of Bologna (Italy) and a Master in Information Technology from Polytechnic of Milan (Italy), with studies also in France (University of Rennes) and in the USA (Washington University St. Louis, Missouri).
Dr. Masetti-Placci joined Hanova in January 2015 and previously has taught Statistics and Product Design courses in Secondary School and Universities Undergraduate Programs in Italy, France, USA and China. In 2013-2014 he was Academic Dean of the Shanghai Campus at Hult International Business School, where he also helped opening new programs and defining curriculum innovation.
Before coming back to education in 2011, he has been the Director of Research and Innovation for Alcatel North America (based in Dallas, Texas), and then Chief Technical and Marketing Officer of Alcatel for Italy, then since 2006 for Asia-Pacific, based in Shanghai (China). During his corporate activities, he had the opportunity to run very large departments and businesses related to strategy, marketing and technology while he also maintained strong links with education, teaching part-time and entering school boards in France, Italy and USA.
Dr. Masetti-Placci has collaborated with Schools/educational institute at all levels, is member of professional associations in Europe and Asia, has authored technical and strategy articles in international journals, and holds technical, leadership and management certifications obtained in Italy, France and the USA. Prior to embarking in his professional career he was very involved with various sports, with national ranking in athletics.
Dr. Masetti-Placci is married with Nicole, herself an IB professor of Languages and Humanities, and they have two children – Matilde, aged 18, and Alessandro, aged 16 – all speaking fluently several languages, familiar with International Education and fond of foreign cultures and sports.
